New Office Bearers of ICAB Elected for 2008

The Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) has elected its new office bearers for the year 2008. Mr. Md. Humayun Kabir FCA has been elected President and Mr. Md. Syful Islam FCA , Mrs. Parveen Mahmud FCA, and Mr. Nasim Anwar FCA have been elected Vice Presidents of the Institute.

Mr. Kabir obtained his Masters in Commerce and B.Com with Honours from the University of Dhaka. Having qualified as Chartered Accountant Mr. Kabir was enrolled with the Institute as an Associate in 1984 and Fellow in 1989. Mr. Kabir was elected Member Council in the years 2001-2003 and 2004-2006. He ws Chairman, Editorial Board of the Council-ICAB and Executive Editor to the ICAB quarterly Journal "The Bangladesh Accountant" and ICAB Monthly New Bulletin for the year 2003 amd Chairman of the IT Committee of ICAB in 2003 and Member's Services and Welfare Committee in 2006 and 2007. Mr. Kabir is Member of different Committees of ICAB since 1985. In Addition Mr. Humayun Kabir is Member of IMA of USA and Member of BCCI and BISA. Mr. Kabir is Chief Executive of Jute Division of the Beximco group. Mr. Kabir regularly contributes to the national on important national dailies. 

Mr. Md. Syful Islam FCA, Member Council elected Vice President-ICAb for the year 2008. Mr. Islam is Managing Panter of Syful Shamsul Alam & Co., Chartered Accountants. he is also Director of Rupalic Bank. He is actively involved with different social service activities in his village home and involved with the foundaing schools and madrasa.

Ms. Parveen Mahmud FCA elected Vice President of ICAB for the year 2008. She is Deputy Managing Director of Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). She qualified as Chartered Accountant from the Instiute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh in the year 1991. Earlier she wa a partner of ACNABIN & Co., Chartered Accountants. She is a member of BAB. Basides, she is the Board Member of MIDAS, Acid Survivors Foundation, SERWTCI, UCEP Bangladesh. She is also member of National Advisory Panel, SME, MOI GOB, Screening Committee Member,, CITI Group, Mcroen Trepreneveship Award 2005, 2006.

Mr. Nasim Anwar FCA, Member Council elected Vice President-ICAB for the year 2008. He is Finance Director of TK Group of Industries. Mr. Nasim obtained his B.Com in Commerce. Having qualified as Chartered Accountant Mr. Nasim was enrolled with the Institute as an Assoicate in 1993 and Fellow in 1998. He was Member of CRC for one term and acted as Chairman-CRC for one year. Mr. Nasim is Member of Chittagong Club Ltd., Permanent Member Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, Chittagong.

Mr. Syed Md. Shabbar Zaidi and Mr. Sheikh A Hafiz
elected President and Vice-President of SAFA for the year 2008

Mr. Syed Md. Shabbar Zaidi of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) has been elected President of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) for the year 2008 at the 66th Assembly Meeting of the Federation held on 31 December 2007 through teleconferencing. He succeeds Mr. Indrajith Fernando of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) who has now been appointed Advisor, SAFA. Mr. Sheikh A Hafiz of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) has been elected as Vice-President, SAFA for the same period.

The South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) is a forum of professional accountancy bodies in the SAARC Countries and is committed to positioning, maintaining and developing the profession in its member-countries and ensuring its continued eminence in the world of accountancy. In the year 1998, SAFA became a recognized body of SAARC and at the 22nd meeting of the Council of Ministers of SAARC at Kathmandu, SAFA had been elevated to the status of SAARC Apex Body .
