CA Women’s Forum Launched
ICAB recognizes women for their contribution to society
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh(ICAB) has launched CA Women’s Forum at a glittering event at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka on 25 November 2017 through celebrating the number of women CA qualified members crossing the one hundred mark under a theme ‘Beautiful Day’. The CA Women’s Forum will work both at policy and implementation levels to support present and future women members and other women stakeholders.
Dr. Gowher Rizvi, Adviser to the Prime Minister was present as the chief guest in the programme. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder and Chairperson, BRAC also present there to hand over the crest to the Women who have contributed to the profession as well as society.
The Celebration ceremony was addressed, among others by Parveen Mahmud FCA, Chairman, Women in Leadership (WIL) Committee of ICAB and Adeeb Hossain Khan FCA, President, ICAB.
On this auspicious occasion ICAB recognized the female advancement in CA profession and the contribution of women as shining personalities who are the role model in the society in different arena and who showed the path to women to come to break the shield and move forward.
In the programme ICAB for the first time honoured its first female CA Suraiya Zannath Khan FCA, first female Council Member & President-ICAB Parveen Mamhmud FCA, first female Practicing Member Akhtar Sanjida Kasem FCA, first Corporate CFO/Foreign Member Inducted as ICAB Member Shama Rukh Alam, first course completed Female Minara Begum, CA Firm from which the highest no of Female CAs qualified, Rahman Rahman Huq and Family with Largest Number of CAs Md. Jainul Abedin FCA.
Besides as shining personalities ICAB honoured Rasheda K. Choudhury, Executive Director, Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) and Vice-President Global Campaign for Education (GCE), Angela Gomes, Founder Executive Director of Banchte Shekha, Ferdousi Rahman, Singer, Dr. Sufia Ahmed, Professor Emeritus First Female National Professor, Sayeeda Khanam, Photo Journalist, Zakia A Chowdhury, First Female Secretary, first FBCCI Female Director Maleka Khan, Women Entrepreneur Rokia Afzal Rahman and Ayesha Khanam , President Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.
Adeeb Hossain Khan said that for last several years, ICAB leadership has felt that we have not been able to sufficiently include women in our journey. The role women are playing in every walk of life in Bangladesh needs to be better reflected in our profession, he added. A number of initiatives have been taken to achieve this. CA Women’s Forum is the latest such initiative, he further said. The core objectives of this Forum are to attract more women into our profession, and to address their specific needs within the profession. We also want this Forum to act as a bridge between our profession and women in business and development so that Chartered Accountants can play a catalytic role in taking them to greater heights, he further added.
Parveen Mahmud said we celebrate this “Beautiful Day” because over a hundred women have become professional accountants in Bangladesh. Today we celebrate because participation of women in the CA profession is progressively on the rise.
She mentioned some initiatives of ICAB include initiative in 1996 to eliminate gender inequality in chartered accountancy profession (the project was funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)). Major recommendations included the formulation of a “Gender Fund”, to uphold and implement this view the ICAB formed a “Committee for Professional Development for Women (CPDW)”, etc.
